my journey

A Sacred Calling Rooted in Mothering

Oak and Rose Birth was born from my own mothering and the birth of my daughter. This work found me through my own lived experience of being held and supported through my pregnancy, and ultimately seen, witnessed and honoured inside my own birth process. What emerged was a sacred calling, an unanswered prayer, full of purpose which led me to the realms of birth.

My foundations inside this work allow me to trust the necessity of it as a means to support mothers, fathers and families. My service within it stands as a high privilege in this life — to support you in your becoming.

This work takes courage. It takes resilience, and we are here, together.

The threads of wisdom that have found me follow the lineages of women and midwives who have sat endlessly before the altars of birth. I offer up my services humbly, knowing we will grow together in our work. I give great thanks to all of my teachers and offer the deepest bow to my daughter, for birthing this path from within me.

my philosophy of care

Birth Wants to Work

As women and mothers we must remember this one simple truth: birth wants to work.

Physiologic, unmedicated birth was my imprint when I became a mother and the unfolding of my experience of giving birth welcomed my mind and my body into enhanced states of consciousness. My birth allowed me to fully let go, to access gateways of pleasure, ultimately ushering my daughter to emerge in a peaceful, gentle way. The journey of my own birth experience informs deeply my belief in what is possible for all women: that birth works and so do our bodies in the most perfect and powerful ways.

My experience of being born however was radically different. I was born under the lens of birth trauma and heartbreaking separation. Decades later inside my own postpartum as a new mother, I began stitching together the threads of these imprints.

One of the first empowerments I offer families in my care is to consider how they were born. This potent beginning illuminates the truth that our gestational experiences offer us pristine opportunities to begin re-writing the stories of our own births, our birth traumas, our generational inheritances and our core values as it pertains to our integrity, our vitality and our bodily autonomy.

If birth wants to work, we must orient ourselves to the channels of knowledge that assist us in understanding the gift of birth physiology and the natural, innate unfolding of what can be an empowered, self-directed birth. We must unpack, fully, the fears that hold us back and engage respectfully with the care providers we choose to collaborate with inside the thresholds of birth.

I believe in every woman’s ability to birth her baby, how she wants to and where she feels most safe.

I am here to witness you with love, trust and truth.
